Minimally Invasive Surgery Offers Patients Pain Free* Surgery

award winning orthopedic surgeon offers new surgery with less pain and recovery time

Minimally Invasive Surgery: Foot & Ankle

Minimally Invasive Surgery, or Minimal Incision Surgery (MIS) is always of interest to patients and surgeons alike. This less invasive type of surgery can result in better cosmetic results, quicker recovery times and less post-operative pain.

With fellowship training and a board certification in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Paul Spiegl, is a highly qualified foot and ankle specialist on the team at Perimeter Orthopaedics in Atlanta and Woodstock, Georgia.

What is Minimally Invasive Surgery?

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) treats foot and ankle conditions and deformities using very small incisions. In these procedures, your foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon uses special instruments to cut bones under X-ray guidance and inserts screws through very small incisions. Advantages of minimally invasive surgery over traditional surgery include faster healing times, decreased pain, earlier weight-bearing, and improved cosmesis as possible benefits.

Diagnosis

A variety of foot and ankle problems, including big toe arthritisbunions, and hammertoes, can be treated with minimally invasive surgery. Importantly, not all patients are good candidates for minimally invasive surgery, and not all surgeons perform minimally invasive surgery. Perimeter Orthopedics is proud to have Dr. Paul Spiegl, an award winning Orthopedic Surgeon,  on staff available to perform minimally invasive surgeries where needed.

Recovery

Recovery is often faster from minimally invasive procedures compared to open procedures. Some weightbearing can be allowed immediately after surgery, but this depends on the procedure you are having done.

The risks of minimally invasive surgery are similar to traditional, open surgeries, although the risks of infection and wound healing problems may be lower with minimally invasive surgery because the incisions are so small.
