pedCAT Q&A

What is pedCAT?

PedCAT is an advanced, in-office imaging test that allows your doctor to develop detailed 3D images of your foot and ankle. Similar to other imaging tests like ultrasounds or MRIs, your doctor uses pedCAT to help diagnose your condition and plan your treatment.

PedCAT uses computed tomography (CT) technology to combine multiple X-rays into a 3D image. Unlike other imaging tests, pedCAT allows you to stand while the images are taken.

The pedCAT scanner is designed with handlebars on each side so you can stabilize yourself during the test. This new and exciting technology reveals useful information about your condition that allows your doctor to develop the most accurate diagnosis. Perimeter Orthopaedics, PC is the only practice in north-central Atlanta that offers 3D weight-bearing CT imaging tests.

How does a pedCAT differ from a traditional CT scan?

Traditional CT scans require you to lie motionless on a sliding table. This puts your foot and ankle in a resting position and doesn’t reveal the true nature of your injury or condition. When images are taken while you’re standing, your doctor can see the true alignment of your foot and ankle, as well as the impact that weight-bearing has on your condition.

PedCAT scans also generate significantly less radiation than traditional CT scans. PedCAT is a safe, cutting-edge imaging test that provides your doctor with the details they need to determine the most effective solution for your foot or ankle problem.

What conditions can be diagnosed with a pedCAT scan?

Perimeter Orthopaedics, PC uses pedCAT technology to evaluate a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including:

  • Fractures
  • Arthritis
  • Tumors
  • Deformities
  • Infections

If you suffer from a foot or ankle problem, your doctor may recommend pedCAT to effectively evaluate your condition. Perimeter Orthopaedics, PC is led by a team of highly experienced orthopedic surgeons committed to quality care and superior outcomes.

The practice offers some of the most advanced diagnostics as well as surgical and nonsurgical treatments. To speak with an orthopedic specialist about your condition, call the office or schedule your appointment online today.
